The Unpublished David Oglivy, By David Oglivy

Not exactly unpublished. This collection of pep talks, old saws etc. from the boss of ad agency O&M first appeared in 1988. Quite why is a mystery.

It starts in 1935 with a much praised if fallacious sales guide: "No household which can afford a motor car can afford to be without an Aga."

Later missives from the boardroom are reminiscent of Lord Copper's snappy tabulations: "We sell or else".

Though he demanded "creative and unorthodox" staff, such qualities are not evident in Oglivy's clichéd mottos: "Pay peanuts and you get monkeys." Zzzzzzzzzz.
