TC Boyle's previous fiction has included books about John Harvey Kellogg, inventor of the corn-flake, and Alfred Kinsey, the trail-blazing sexologist.

In The Women he turns his attention to another great American maverick, Frank Lloyd Wright - an architect whose love life proved as progressive and disturbing as his designs.

Boyle's episodic novel relates the melodramatic history of Wright's several marriages and life at Taliesin, the architect's beloved home in Wisconsin.

Boyle, who himself occupies a Lloyd Wright house, inhabits his subject's multi-storied world with characteristic energy and gusto.
