Louis CK makes surprise appearance at New York's Comedy Cellar a month after controversial comeback show

Two women reportedly walked out of an otherwise warmly received set

Louis CK returned to the New York comedy circuit over the weekend, performing a surprise set at the city's Comedy Cellar.

Reports have since emerged that multiple attendees ended up leaving the venue during the set on Sunday night (30 September), with a source telling Page Six: “A few women walked out."

"He didn’t address [the #MeToo allegations against him]," they continued. "He was a little arrogant… he made some comment like, ‘I’ve been off for a while, ‘cause everyone needs a break.’”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the patrons who decided to leave midway through the midnight set "left politely." A source added that "the crowd was very enthusiastic."

CK had previously played the same club in late August, two attendees claiming the comic made a 'rape whistle' joke in what was his first stand-up set since his sexual misconduct admission.

The source told THR: "The reception this time was more enthusiastic. His set was better all-around."

Every ticket to a Comedy Cellar show now features the disclaimer: "If an unannounced appearance is not your cup of tea, you are free to leave (unobtrusively please) no questions asked, your check on the house."

CK was accused by five women of masturbating in front of them in November 2017. The comedian issued a statement admitting to the allegations, writing: “I have to reconcile it with who I am. Which is nothing compared to the task I left them with.”

Following his admission, CK lost his production deal with FX, Netflix and HBO. Distributor The Orchard cancelled the release of his film I Love You, Daddy which he wrote, directed and starred in opposite Chloë Grace Moretz, Charlie Day and Edie Falco.
