Over the course of 2016, dozens of science fiction films hit cinemas: Rogue One, Star Trek Beyond, and Passengers to name a few.

However, there was one that stood above the rest thanks to some incredible acting and direction: Arrival, based on the short story Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang.

The special effects are seamless, as you may likely expect from Sicario director Denis Villeneuve, are seamless. However, the extent to which Villeneuve used VFX was perhaps underestimated beforehand.

Thanks to demo reel from Oblique FX, the extent to which the film was altered is incredible, with almost every tank and helicopter being added in post-production. Watch below.

Recently, Arrival was nominated for a WGA award for Best Adapted screenplay, alongside the likes of Nocturnal Animals and - surprisingly - Deadpool.

Meanwhile, after Arrival’s release late last year, fans began wondering about the secretive last line uttered to Amy Adams’ character in Mandarin. Screenwriter Eric Heisserer eventually revealed the lines meaning in a Q&A in November.
