The Batman - DC FanDome Teaser

The first trailer for Robert Pattinson’s new Batman film was filled with a lot of surprises, but there’s one that’s surprising British TV viewers more than others.

Matt Reeves’ film has plenty of talking points, including Colin Farrell’s transformation into popular DC villain The Penguin, and Paul Dano as The Riddler.

However, some are classing the biggest shock as the inclusion of someone much more unexpected: the actor who played Little Mo Slater’s abusive husband, Trevor Morgan, in BBC soap EastEnders.

Scottish actor Alex Ferns has been cast in The Batman as Commissioner Pete Savage. He is shown in the trailer, which also features Hollywood stars Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon) and Zoë Kravitz (Catwoman).

“Sure I can’t wait to see Pattinson’s Batman & Dano’s Riddler is going to be insane, but it was Trevor from EastEnders giving it full on nasty s*** that gave me chills!” one person wrote on Twitter.

Another added: “Oh s***! The new Batman has Trevor from EastEnders in it – good luck, Batman.”

Broadcaster Jamie East quipped: “Did anyone else get “Trevor from EastEnders in The Batman in their 2020 bingo?”

Another person joked that Ferns’ inclusion could indicate this Batman film might be better than Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

“Sure, the Nolan Batman films were great and all, but did they have Trevor from EastEnders? THEY DID NOT.”

Ferns most recently appeared in the acclaimed drama Chernobyl.

Following his first appearance in December 2000, Ferns’ character returned months later and swiftly became one of the soap’s biggest villains.

His final appearance came on 1 November 2002.

The trailer for The Batman was shared by Reeves at the DC FanDome event over the weekend (22 August).

Due to disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, The Batman will be released in October 2021.
