Idris Elba’s latest film - Beasts of No Nation - details the journey of a young boy (Abraham Attah) travelling through war-torn Africa after he is forced to join a group of mercenary fighters.

Both Elba’s performance and Cary Fukunaga’s direction have been critically praised, and the two want to work together again, but not on a medium budget, Netflix film.

When asked by Metro whether he’d like to take over directing the Bond series from Spectre’s Sam Mendes, Fukunaga said: “That would be pretty cool to have Idris and I do a Bond film together. I wouldn’t say no to that. Maybe find a role for Abraham in there too.”

If you’re not up-to-date with the rumours, Elba is being heavily touted to take over as James Bond from Daniel Craig after Spectre.

Fukunaga previously directed and executively produced the brilliant crime-drama series True Detective, and with his latest work on Nations, he has surely proven he could take on the blockbuster series.

The director also spoke about rumours that Elba nearly died on set: “We were definitely shooting next to a precarious, sort of slippery, wet cliff next to a waterfall and he leaned on a tree that wasn’t really a tree and it broke.

“I think he went down, like, one step and then my AD [assistant director] sort of grabbed him by the arm and prevented a full tumble but I’m sure he would’ve been just fine.”

Beast of No Nation’s is available to watch on Netflix now while Spectre is out 26 October.
