Disney’s almighty box-office domination continues as Beauty and the Beast tops the worldwide box-office once more, having grossed $690.3 million and becoming the number one film of 2017.

Emma Watson’s turn as Belle marks the fourth consecutive Disney film to make over $600 million, following in the footsteps of Doctor Strange, Moana, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Despite receiving primarily negative reviews, Power Rangers managed to take $59.2 million globally, over $40 million of which came from the US. With a $100 million budget, the film still has someway to go before making a profit.

Perhaps the most surprising box office news, however, comes from China where the Tom Hiddleston-led Kong: Skull Island debuted to $72.1 million, taking the film’s worldwide cume to $392.1 million.

The monster mash will surpass quasi-prequel Godzilla - the two films share a cinematic universe - later this week, Gareth Edward’s film having made $78 million there.

Warner. Bros. remake of CHiPs was the weekend’s biggest loser, taking just $7.6m from a $25m production budget. The Dax Shepard-written and starring film was expected to make more but failed to impress both critics and audiences, holding a B- CinemaScore from cinema goers.

Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal Life also failed to land with audiences, unable to beat Kong: Skull Island, taking $12.6 million behind the ape’s $14.4 million. Sony’s space adventure cost $58 million to make.

Although there have been some flops, March has been a record-breaking month for cinema, becoming the biggest March of all time thanks to Beauty and the Beast, Logan, Kong and Get Out.
