Captain America: Civil War: first look at new villain Crossbones
We're coming fast into Civil War season, and the news is starting to pour in. First off, Martin Freeman's character was revealed, then Pepper Potts was confirmed to return; not to mention Anthony Mackie revealing The Hulk is primed to appearppear.
And now, our first look at a rather underplayed, yet no less intriguing, character in the film's marketing: Frank Grillo's Crossbones. Empire revealed the first official image of the character, masked and ready to launch into combat.
Crossbones' real identity is Brock Rumlow, who previously crossed paths with Captain America (Chris Evans) in the elevator fight scene from Captain America: The Winter Soldier; he landed one gnarly fate during the helicarrier crash, with his severe burning and disfigurement leading him to don the Crossbones mask.
Though the MCU has already altered Crossbones' origins, as he's originally a gang member-turned-Red Skull henchman, the character could potentially serve a major role in the film.
In the Civil War comics storyline [SPOILER ALERT], its Crossbones who's eventually responsible for the assassination of Captain America. That doesn't mean he'll be the one to do it here, or even that Captain America will find his time is up at the end of Civil War, especially with the Infinity War movies still in the pipeline.
Elsewhere, we got a better look at Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch and her revamped costume; she'll be taking sides with Cap in the fight.
Captain America: Civil War hits UK theatres 29 April.
