The British actress Carey Mulligan is set to beat a string of American rivals to play the role of Hillary Clinton in a biopic of the former US Secretary of State.

Other candidates had included Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone, but Mulligan is the producers’ first choice, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
