Christopher Nolan vs Marvel: Interstellar director denies making a dig at studio

The British director has denied criticising Marvel's post-credits scenes

Christopher Nolan has denied making a dig at Marvel after claims that he criticised the studio’s use of post-credits scenes.

The Oscar-nominated director allegedly dismissed Warner Bros' suggestion that he and Zack Snyder include a "comedy coda ending in the style of Marvel" for 2013 Superman film Man of Steel, arguing that "a real movie wouldn't do that".

Nolan's comments were published in a recent Guardian profile that has since been updated to include what he says was his actual reply.

"We shouldn't be chasing other movies, but stay true to the tone of Man of Steel," Nolan claims he said.

The 44-year-old also issued a statement to BuzzFeed, insisting that the Guardian's quote was "inaccurate".

"I would never say someone else's film isn't a real film," he said.

Marvel has become known for including extra scenes after the credits have rolled, many of which serve as teasers for upcoming sequels and spin-offs.

Nolan's latest film Interstellar opens in UK cinemas on Friday, starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine.

The sci-fi adventure follows a group of explorers who make use of a freshly-discovered wormhole in an effort to surpass human space travel limitations.

Nolan, known for Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, has said that Interstellar is about "human bonds and what makes us who we are".
