Former Marvel Comics president Stan Lee has cancelled his appearance at Comic-Con after being struck down by laryngitis.
The 91-year-old comic book icon planned to attend the San Diego festival for signings today and tomorrow, but has been forced to let down his established fanbase.
A spokesperson said that Lee had “regrettably had to cancel his appearances”.
“Stan is otherwise well and in good health, though he is disappointed to miss the event and wishes everyone a great time,” the statement read, according to The Hollywood Reporter .
Lee has missed only a handful of Comic-Cons since it began in 1970 and was one of the first to help the festival attract Hollywood’s attention.
Lee will next be seen starring in a cameo role in Guardians of the Galaxy
