Tom Hanks has provided an update on his coronavirus diagnosis as he remains in isolation “for the next 10 days” with wife Rita Wilson in Australia.
Days after announcing they had tested positive for the illness, Hanks sent his thanks to “the helpers” and urged the world to “take care” as the situation caused by the pandemic intensifies globally .
“Thanks to the Helpers,” he wrote. ”Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Hanx.”
The actor also shared a photo from self-isolation with a toy kangaroo and koala as well as a piece of toast with Australian spread Vegemite.
“Really must send a big thank you to the doctors and medical experts from Queensland Health, who have given us tremendous support and most importantly, very clear instructions as to how to go about putting our company and the community’s health first,” he added.
“Personally, I’m in isolation for the next 10 days, but wanted to let you guys know that the family and I are healthy and well. We’ll keep you updated!”
Hanks is in Australia to film Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley biopic, in which he will star opposite Austin Butler as the singer’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
The film – as well as every other in Hollywood – has shut down production after Trump declared a “national emergency” and both Italy and Spain went into lockdown.
”Very proud to say that the entire production is following these instructions to a T,” Hanks said.
Hanks is the highest-profile celebrity to be diagnosed with coronavirus. Others include Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea footballer Callum Hudson-Odoi.

As Celia’s formidable daughter Caroline, a headteacher coming to terms with the fact she’s a lesbian, Sarah Lancashire gives one of the finest performances of recent years. And Nicola Walker shines, too, as her shirty, sheep-farming stepsister Gillian. If you think Last Tango in Halifax is only for older viewers, you’re robbing yourself of a lot of joy. AP
