Felicity Jones is set to play a formidable feminist icon.

She's signed on to star as a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the biopic piece On the Basis of Sex (via Variety), directed by Mimi Leder and focusing on Ginsburg's battles for equal rights throughout her law career, from its early days at Harvard University and Columbia Law School, all the way to Washington.

It's an enviable role for any actor, and a cosy route to awards recognition, so it's no surprise that Jones isn't the first to be attached to the project.

Natalie Portman had previously been circling around Daniel Stiepleman's screenplay back in 2015, which had topped the Black List of unproduced screenplays the previous year.

Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 by President Clinton and become the second female justice after Sanda Day O'Connor. She continues to serve as an associate justice as part of the court's liberal wing, one of three female justices in the current court.

Jones comes off the back of Rogue One's success last year, having recently signed up to Luca Guadagnino's new adaptation of Swan Lake.
