Ferris Bueller’s Day Off cast reunite for charity special with touching tribute to John Hughes

Hit 1986 teen comedy starred Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck

Most of the cast of the hit 1986 teen comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off have reunited for a 45-minute-long charity special.

The unscripted reunion, filmed via video link as part of Josh Gad’s Reunited Apart YouTube series, sees actors including Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck and Mia Sara return to joke and reminisce about their old roles.

Among the topics discussed were the famous Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, the car driven in the film by happy-go-lucky truant Bueller (Broderick) and destroyed by Ruck’s character Cameron, and the elaborate dance sequence at the Von Steuben Day parade.

The cast also fondly reminisced about director John Hughes, the filmmaker behind Ferris Beuller’s Day Off (as well as a string of hit 1980s comedies including The Breakfast Club and Planes, Trains and Automobiles) who died in 2009.

Broderick explained how he injured his knee during the film’s climactic running scene, which was filmed before the parade.

Ferris Bueller superfan and Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal appeared towards the end of the video to ask the cast some deep-cut trivia questions.

The reunion concluded with a montage of actors from other Hughes films delivering some of their iconic lines in tribute to the late director.

Catherine O’Hara, Steve Martin and Molly Ringwald were among the faces to make an appearance.
