The Grudge trailer

The trailer for a brand new version of horror film The Grudge has been released – and it’s an extremely jumpy affair.

Directed by Nicolas Pesce (Piercing), the film follows a detective (Andrea Riseborough) who investigates a serious of suspicious deaths all stemming from one house belonging to a character played by Star Trek‘s John Cho.

Hollywood tackled The Grudge once before with an adaptation directed by Takashi Shimazu, the filmmaker behind the Japanese inspiration, Ju-On (2002). It starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as a nurse in Tokyo afflicted by a curse that created uncontrollable homicidal rage.

The film took $187m (£144m) from a $10m (£7.7m) budget spawning a sequel in 2006.

The reboot, which takes place in America, also stars Betty Gilpin, Jacki Weaver, Demian Bichir and Insidious star Lin Shaye. Horror movie maestro Sam Raimi is on board as producer.

The Grudge is released in UK cinemas on 31 January.
