Jonah Hill to make directing debut with self-penned 'coming of age dramedy'

Mid-90s will follow a young skateboarder growing up in Los Angeles

Jonah Hill has gone from gross-out comedy actor to credible Oscar-nominee in less than a decade - and now he's about to add a directorial string to his bow.

The 22 Jump Street star will direct coming-of-age film Mid-90s which is based on a script he wrote himself, Variety reports.

According to sources, the story follows an impressionable young boy growing up in Los Angeles who learns life lessons surrounded by his skateboarding friends - you guessed it - in the mid-90s.

Sounds very Dazed and Confused to us.

The actor, however, won't be starring in the film, opting to stay behind the camera for this one; the production start date is not yet known.

Hill made his lead film debut in 2007's Superbad and has since starred in 21 Jump Street, Funny People and This Is the End.

He also appeared in Oscar-nominated films Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street, both for which he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award.

He will next star in War Dogs, a comedy co-starring Miles Teller, and Sausage Party, an r-rated animation featuring a swearing bagel voiced by Edward Norton.
