Leaping lizards! Cameron Diaz cast as Miss Hannigan in Annie
Cameron Diaz is set to play Miss Hannigan in a forthcoming film remake of the 1980s stage musical Annie.
The actress, 40, who might be more suited to dripping in diamonds than, as her big musical number has it “dripping in little girls”, has been cast in the film produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith.
She will star alongside Oscar-nominated Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis as Annie and Jamie Foxx, who is lined up to play a modern day incarnation of Daddy Warbucks.
Friends With Benefits director Will Gluck is helming the film, an adaptation from the stage musical which includes hits “It’s the Hard-Knock Life” and “Tomorrow”.
The 1982 film starred Carol Burnett as the wicked orphanage proprietor Miss Hannigan, Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks and Aileen Quinn as Annie.
Diaz is currently filming The Other Woman.
Annie is slated for release in December 2014.
