Little Shop of Horrors remake in the works

Greg Berlanti will direct a new version of the 1986 cult musical, itself based on Roger Corman's earlier sci-fi flick

It looks like Warner Bros. is banking on Damien Chazelle's La La Land bringing the musical back en vogue.

The studio is greenlighting a new take on the classic Little Shop of Horrors, Deadline reports; that is, the 1986 musical which itself took its basis on a 1960 sci-fi B-movie by Roger Corman, featuring an appearance from a young Jack Nicholson.

Greg Berlanti will direct, who's best know as the man behind DC's television empire: specifically the Arrowverse (Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow) and Supergirl.

The script will meanwhile be penned by Matthew Robinson, whose past credits include the 2009 Ricky Gervais comedy The Invention of Lying and the upcoming (insane-looking) Monster Trucks. 1986's Little Shop of Horrors was penned by Howard Ashman, as an adaptation of his off-Broadway musical, with the new film presumably incorporating the old songs.

Considering Little Shop of Horror's cinematic cult status, it's hard to think how Warner Bros. could possibly put a fresh spin on the tale; specifically when it requires finding stars who can match the likes of original stars Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.

Will it stay true to the original's schlocky charm, or will it attempt something entirely new? There's no release date attached to this yet, but more news will hopefully trickle out in the coming months.
