A new trailer has been released for Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos's The Lobster, a wonderfully weird dystopian romantic thriller.

Set in the near future, single people, according to the rules of The City, are taken to The Hotel where they are obliged to find a mate within 45 days. If they fail to do so, they are transformed into animals of their choice and sent off into The Woods.

Farrell's character David chooses a lobster ("an excellent choice"), but escapes into The Woods where he falls in love with a Loner (Rachel Weisz).

The surreal and darkly comic film impressed critics at Cannes this year, where it earned a Jury Prize.

The Lobster has an excellent cast, also feature Spectre's Lea Seydoux, Boogie Nights' John C. Reilly, Skyfall's Ben Whishaw and Broadchurch's Olivia Colman.

Farrell looks to have tapped into the innocent confusion he communicated so well in In Bruges, while Colman plays the icy Hotel manager.

The Lobster opens in UK cinemas on 16 October.
