Despite Christopher Nolan's Batman film The Dark Knight being to thank for the expanded number of Best Picture nominees (the film's disappointing snub in 2009 saw the Academy reshuffle the format), no superhero film has yet been handed a nomination.

Ryan Reynolds believes that drought will end with upcoming Wolverine film Logan.

According to Variety, the Deadpool actor - nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at this weekend's Golden Globes - has seen the Hugh Jackman film and is expecting plaudits galore.

Logan - Trailer

"Logan looks like a movie that might break that glass ceiling,” he said. “I know first-hand that it’s amazing. I’ve seen some of it. It’s mind-blowing. It relies a lot on character.”

This excitingly corroborates recent reports that have suggested Logan is more of an R-rated character study than just another commercial superhero film, not to mention the overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Many are hoping that Reynolds' own Deadpool will be named when the Oscar nominations are announced on 22 January following its Golden Globe recognition.

The actor recently discredited rumours that his character - who exists in the same world as Logan - will be making a cameo appearance in the film from director James Mangold (Walk the Line).
