Matthew Vaughn’s no stranger to controversy.

The director famously made headlines with Kick-Ass, the R-Rated superhero movie that featured the 13-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz say: "Okay, you c***s, let's see what you can do now.”

With Kingsman: The Secret Service, some viewers were once again left outraged, this time by a now-infamous anal sex scene.

The sequel, The Golden Circle, has also left some fans angered, again by a controversial sex-scene. ** Spoilers for Kingsman: The Golden Circle ahead **

Mid-way through the film, at Glastonbury music festival, the protagonist Eggsy has consensual sex with another character, but non-consensually plants a tracking device inside her vagina.

Speaking to The Independent, Vaughn spoke about the scene. “I can’t help myself. Once I get prodded I’ll prod back.

“I was laughing and thought no one has done a shot like this before. We figured it out and thought ‘let’s do it’.

“Right now the world has become so sterilised. For just one second, I want people to go ‘Oh my God’ or laugh; to find it funny or not laugh and move on. How many movies do you watch and go ‘I’ve just wasted two hours of my b****y life, can I have it back?’”

Taron Egerton has since revealed he didn’t participate in the scene. Instead, the actress involved — Poppy Delevingne — had her husband act out the moment.

Vaughn also spoke to The Independent about the controversy surrounding the initial Kingsman film, saying: “The criticism of that last scene astonishes me because we’re an R-rated movie.

“The Bond movies have all ended with pure misogynistic innuendo, but everyone thinks that’s funny. I haven’t read any complaints about that.

“It was supposed to be funny and a wink to ‘can you believe this is how they used to end movies?’ I genuinely didn’t think this would cause that much controversy.” Read the full interview here.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is currently in cinemas.
