Money Monster trailer: George Clooney plays a TV host held hostage on air
“I may be the one with a gun here, but I am not the real criminal”
Could the financial crisis be Hollywood’s latest go-to subject when green-lighting new films? This notion is bolstered by the new trailer for Money Monster.
A thriller from Jodie Foster, the film stars George Clooney as a presenter whose money-oriented live TV show is interrupted when he’s taken hostage by a blue-collar worker (Jack O’Connell) turning to violence following his recent financial losses.
“I may be the one with a gun here, but I am not the real criminal,” O’Connell’s desperate Kyle Budwell says.
Revealing he's strapped to a bomb, it’s down to the show’s producer - played by Clooney’s Ocean’s Eleven co-star Julia Roberts - to talk host Lee Gates, referred to in the film as ‘The Wizard of Wall Street’, through the life-threatening situation.
The financial thriller follows in the footsteps of Adam McKay’s award hopeful The Big Short, which focuses on a group of four ruthless finance workers who use the world’s banking crash to their advantage, and Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street (2014).
Money Monster co-stars Dominic West and Caitriona Balfe (TV’s Outlander) and is produced by the team behind Oscar-winners Up in the Air and Argo, while the soundtrack will be provided by Bruce Springsteen.
The film will be released on 27 May 2016.
