Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie holds box office top spot as Brendan O'Carroll's domination continues

The hit comedy's total sales earnings currently stand at more than £9 million

Brendan O'Carroll's Mrs Brown's Boys D’Movie shows no sign of surrendering its UK and Ireland box office lead.

The comedy, based on the hit BBC sitcom, has topped the film chart for a second consecutive week after taking £2.1 million, bringing its total earnings to more than £9 million.

In the new movie, market stall owner Agnes Brown sets out on an entertaining mission to save her family’s livelihood from a ruthless property developer.

O'Carroll's latest broke a record last weekend when it scored the largest ever opening day of an Irish film in Ireland.

At present, Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie is the 15th biggest film of 2014 in the UK so far, with The Lego Movie the highest-grossing to date.

Elsewhere, Transformers: Age of Extinction, grossed £4.7 million but was ineligible for the Friday to Sunday weekend chart as it opened on Saturday.

Older releases The Fault in Our Stars and 22 Jump Street remain in the top three while another summer blockbuster, How To Train Your Dragon 2, is expected to perform well in next week’s box office.

The cast of Mrs Brown's Boys will be heading on tour in 2015, with a new TV series also expected, possibly by the end of this year.

The show's last run picked up the Best Comedy prize at the National Television Awards in January after winning the hotly-contested Christmas Day ratings battle.
