Natalie Dormer stars in creepy trailer for The Forest
The Game of Thrones star explores Japan's infamous Aokigahara Forest.
Games of Thrones' Natalie Dormer takes centre stage in the trailer for upcoming horror The Forest, filmed in Japan's infamous Aokigahara Forest, a popular suicide site which bears historical associations with traditional demon mythology.
It feels as if it's becoming an increasingly contractual obligation for British stars to do their duty in medium-budgeted horror movies; while you'd think the usual course of things would be to star in a horror movie, then get famous. Karen Gillan took on Oculus, Emma Watson starred in Regression, and Daniel Radcliffe, of course, nabbed the lead in The Woman in Black.
And now Dormer's jumping into the crowd with The Forest; she'll star as Sara, the young American who comes to the notorious woodlands in search of her missing twin sister. Though warned not to "stray from the path", Sara is determined to discover the truth of her sister's fate, even if it means coming face to face with the angry and tormented souls of those passed.
The Forest marks the feature debut of Jason Zada, a man best known for creating the Elf Yourself concept. You know, those aggravating Facebook videos where you stick your friends' faces over dancing elves and then continue to post it every, single holiday season. Though he's already forayed into horror with his 2011 interactive short, Take This Lollipop; he's perhaps not admittedly the most sensitive filmmaker to take on what's a difficult, uncomfortable part of Japan's cultural geography.
The Forest hits UK theatres 26 February.
