Once Upon a Time in Hollywood trailer

The first trailer for Quentin Tarantino's new film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been released, ahead of the movie's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt feature respectively as struggling actor Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth.

Margot Robbie is seen playing Sharon Tate, who was killed in her home during the Manson family murders on 8-9 August, 1969 – around which time the film is set.

The clip, which lasts just under two minutes, doesn't provide much detail as to the film's plot, but rather gives a flavour of Pitt's and DiCaprio's characters as Tarantino's trademark style is revived onscreen.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is premiering in Cannes on Tuesday, 25 years after Tarantino debuted Pulp Fiction on the French Riviera.

Pulp Fiction went on to win the Palme d'Or in 1994.

His latest film is expected to cause the biggest frenzy of the festival, bringing DiCaprio, Pitt and Robbie to the Cannes red carpet.

Tarantino issued a statement to festival audiences imploring them not to spoil Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for future moviegoers.
