Oscars 2014: Jennifer Lawrence named as the first presenter at Academy Awards

Actress, who won at last year’s awards for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, will be returning to the stage as a presenter

Jennifer Lawrence, who scooped the best actress award at last year’s Oscars, has been named as the first presenter of the 2014 ceremony.

Revealed by the show’s producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the announcement came around an hour after voting for the 86th Academy Awards opened.

Ms Lawrence - a strong contender for the title of most popular actress of the moment - is also nominated for her part in American Hustle.

Having won a gold statuette for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook and been nominated in 2011 for her role in Winter’s Bone, J-Law is the youngest three-time nominee in the history of the Oscars.

Her memorable acceptance of the best actress award last year, featured Ms Lawrence falling on the stairs and pulling off a standup-esque press Q&A session after the ceremony.

It is tradition that the previous year’s winners are the first to be announced as presenters for the following year.

The Oscars will be held on the 2 March at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. Comedian Ellen DeGeneres will be returning as host, having first led proceedings in 2007.
