Two weeks before reaching cinemas, Disney CEO Bob Iger said hackers were claiming to hold a copy of Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge
The unnamed group held the company random, saying they would release segments online if their substantial demands are not paid to them in Bitcoin.
After some thorough investigation, Disney has concluded they were not hacked, Iger telling Yahoo!
“We had a threat of a hack of a movie being stolen. We decided to take it seriously but not react in the manner in which the person who was threatening us had required.”
He concluded that Disney doesn’t believe “that it was real and nothing has happened,” adding “in today’s world, cyber security is a front-burner issue.”
