Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction is leading the way at this year’s Razzies, with seven nominations for the awards that nobody wants to win.

The sci-fi adventure, starring Mark Wahlberg and Kelsey Grammer, received nods in many of the major categories – worst picture, worst screenplay, worst director, worst sequel, worst screen combo, worst supporting actress (Nicola Peltz) and worst supporting actor (Kelsey Grammer). Quite the haul then, but it was the highest-grossing movie of 2014 worldwide.

Following in Transformers’ dubious wake are The Legend of Hercules and Saving Christmas, both with six nominations, while Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Left Behind also racked up several.

Cameron Diaz has not had a good year, Golden Raspberry Awards-wise, having picked up two worst actress nominations for Sex Tape and The Other Woman, plus a worst supporting actress mention for Annie and a worst screen combo nod for her work with Jason Segel.

Melissa McCarthy and Drew Barrymore are among the other actress nominees, with Nicholas Cage, Seth McFarlane and Mel Gibson up for very bad acting gongs.

New for 2015 is the redeemer award, which praises past Razzies winners who have since upped their game and achieved success. This prize is determined by public vote on movie review website Rotten Tomatoes.

Ben Affleck is nominated for Oscar-winning Argo and Gone Girl, Kristen Stewart for Camp X-Ray, Jennifer Anniston for Cake, Keanu Reeves for John Wick and Mike Myers for Supermensch.

The parody ceremony began in 1980 as a “comical counterpoint to Tinsel Town’s annual glut of self-congratulary awards”. This year, it takes place the night before the Oscars on 21 February.

The Razzies highlight the biggest flops of recent times and satirise the worst achievements in film. Razzies are voted for by more than 750 GRAF members across 47 US states and 19 foreign countries.
