Early Rogue One reviews: K-2SO is apparently ‘hilarious’, best Star Wars droid yet
Unlike C-3PO, he is apparently 'unflappable'
The Star Wars universe’s CGI/practical effects sidekicks range from the iconic (C-3PO and R2-D2) to the promising (BB-8) and the loathed (Jar-Jar Binks). The signs look good for Rogue One though and its droid helper K-2SO.
A few critics and fanboys got to see 28 minutes of the standalone film this week, and it says a lot that many of them, despite having just 140 characters to detail their reactions on Twitter, heavily praised the gangly robot.
K-2SO, who was originally created for use in the Galactic Empire’s armed forces but was reprogrammed to serve the Alliance, hasn’t featured that heavily in the trailers but looks to be serving as comic relief.
Though he bears some resemblance to C-3PO, K-2SO is apparently quite different in personality.
Asked if he thought the pair would get on, K-2SO actor Alan Tudyk said recently: “I don't think they would. Kaytoo is unflappable, and C-3PO was just flapping all over the place.”
There’s a better look at the droid here in a couple of scene clips shown at conventions (the dialogue has been stripped out for some reason in the second):
Rogue One was given a verdict by perhaps the most important reviewer of all today, George Lucas. The film opens in cinemas on 15 December.
