Russell Crowe has a Man of Steel prequel idea for DC

He's really not helping

It may have its apologists but, three years on, it's fair to say Man of Steel wasn't the film Superman fans were hoping for.

After the larger misstep that was last month's Batman v Superman, the excitement for DC's future output - Aquaman, Justice League, etc. - is in danger of waning.

This hasn't stopped actor Russell Crowe from wading in with a suggestion for the exact thing the DC Extended Universe doesn't need right now: a Man of Steel prequel.

In the 2013 film, Crowe played the character of Superman's father Jor-El and, at CinemaCon last week, the Australian actor pitched an idea of an origin story to MTV News which would track the breakdown of his character's friendship with General Zod (Michael Shannon).

"Why did Jor-El and Zod’s friendship break down?” Crowe asked. “One, that would give me another opportunity to work with Michael Shannon, who I dig. And I think there’s some fascination in that.”

It's fair to say that the Krypton-set scenes were Man of Steel's best moments so maybe he has a point. But perhaps, for now, DC should set their sights on moving on.

Batman v Superman actor Jesse Eisenberg recently spoke out about his role of Lex Luthor claiming retroactive 'editorial choices' affected his character's position in the story.

Crowe will next be seen in Shane Black's action-comedy The Nice Guys alongside Ryan Gosling; it will premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
