Star Trek Beyond: New trailer gives closer look at Idris Elba's villain

'I know your kind'

With just days to go until the release of Star Trek Beyond, Paramount have graced us with another trailer for the film, giving us a closer look at Idris Elba’s villain.

“I know your kind,” the character says to the crew of the Enterprise, having just boarded the ship with his anti-Federation cannon fodder. What this implies about Krall is unclear, likely that he spent time with the human race and has a deeper connection with them.

Some fans also believe the line could imply a genetic relation to humans, director Justin Lin having previously revealed that Krall is of a “new species that we discover in this chapter.”

In the same interview, Lin revealed it took four hours to do Elba’s make-up for the role: “I’ve worked with some really great people and Idris immerses himself and I really enjoyed working with him because he’s all about the character and what’s best about the character’s journey in the film. The only thing that sucked is it took four hours every time we needed to get him on set.”

Recently, it was confirmed that a fourth Star Trek film is already in the works, with Chris Hemsworth signed on to reprise his role as James T. Kirk’s father.

Meanwhile, reviews for Star Trek Beyond have been relatively positive, The Independent awarding the film four stars, calling it “not the most sophisticated, but very likeable”. Beyond hits cinemas 22 July 2016.
