Hours after the Star Wars: The Last Jedi review embargo dropped, series creator George Lucas offered a verdict on the movie, calling it “beautifully made”.

The report also detailed how Lucas spoke to director Rian Johnson, sharing some kind words about the eighth Star Wars picture.

Asked by The Independent at a press conference about that discussion, Johnson spoke about how flattering the comments were.

“He was very gracious and had some very kind words,” he said. “I grew up not just loving Star Wars, I went to the film school I went to because I read a book about George Lucas and saw he went there.

“To have a chat with him and to have him be so kind and gracious about the movie we made felt really good.”

Lucas has previously spoken about the Disney-produced Star Wars movies, reportedly saying he “really liked” both The Force Awakens and Rogue One.

Meanwhile, the critics have given their verdicts on The Last Jedi, the reaction being overwhelmingly positive. Read our own review here.

The Last Jedi reaches cinemas 14 December.
