Carrie Fisher brought her French bulldog Gary to the London premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The adorable pooch, rarely caught without his tongue hanging out of his mouth, managed to steal attention away from the likes of celebrity attendees Mads Mikkelsen, Benedict Cumberbatch, and even the Beckham clan.

And in Fisher's own beloved, down-to-earth style, she even took the time to crouch down on all fours on the red carpet, in front of hordes of fans and awaiting press, to play with little Gary. Indeed, the actress clearly had an absolute blast at the event, mugging for cameras and messing around with the attending troupe of Stormtroopers.

Gary has already become quite the celebrity on Twitter, with the actress regularly posting shots of the dog on her social media page; she had snapped Gary earlier in the day hanging out with Poe Dameron himself, Oscar Isaac.

Gary clearly had an interesting evening, meeting the film's new droid character BB-8 as the cast gathered together on stage. It looks as if he was keen to play with his new friend, dancing around and barking excitedly at the robot.

Leicester Square seems to have become the fashionable location for celebrity dogs to strut their stuff of late. London had already fallen in love with Tom Hardy's dog, Woody, as he chased pigeons down the blue carpet of the Legend premiere

The European premiere of The Force Awakens saw the entirety of the square flooded with eager fans as director J.J. Abrams and his cast turned up to greet them; among them were Daisy Ridley Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, and Gwendoline Christie.

The film has already made UK box office history when it sold more than a half a million presale tickets for its opening week in one cinema chain alone.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out in theatres now.
