Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker special look

Star Wars actor John Boyega has criticised The Last Jedi, again.

The British star, who reprises the role of Finn in new JJ Abrams film The Rise of Skywalker, has been candid about his views on his character’s trajectory in the 2017 film.

While Boyega acknowledged that Rian Johnson’s film “excited him” and that he “enjoyed the experience” of filming his scenes, he was disappointed by Finn’s storyline.

“I liked the idea of these characters being challenged and separated and stressed, like everyone’s just trying to get to each other – that excited me,” he told The Hollywood Reporter‘s podcast.

“But I will be honest in saying I think that they could have done better with it, especially with Finn and Rose [Kelly Marie Tran].”

Boyega continued: “You know, as a black person, you’re going to feel a big type of weight. You had nothing to do with Rey and Kylo... [and] the story just wasn’t here for me, with Finn and Rose.”

The actor previously told Hypebeast he disliked the fact that he was separated from the main group in the film, which left fans believing his comments were referencing his co-star Tran.

Tran’s character received such a backlash online that the actor was forced to suspend her Twitter account.
