Since the release of Suicide Squad, revelations about the Joker have come thick and fast. Jared Leto has, on numerous occasions, said various scenes were deleted (so much so that there’s an entire film’s worth of footage).

Perhaps the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman is referring to the character’s fleshed out backstory, which director David Ayer discussed with Empire in a recent interview.

“This is sort of my personal thing and maybe less about a larger connection,” he told the magazine. “But Joker killed Robin and Batman basically smashes his teeth out and locks him up in Arkham Asylum.

“It’s in the asylum where Joker would have done the ‘damaged’ tattoo as a message to Batman saying, 'You’ve damaged me. I was so beautiful before and now you’ve destroyed my face.' That’s where the grill comes from.”

While it is unlikely this sequence was filmed, seeing Batman go against the Joker after killing Robin could be a great prequel film. If only there was a solo-Batman film on the way…

Meanwhile, Suicide Squad has been on the receiving end of negative critical reviews; something that is apparently ‘motivating’ the cast of Justice League.
