Terminator will be back in 2015: First of rebooted trilogy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger slated for release
The Terminator franchise will be back in 2015 with the first instalment of the rebooted trilogy.
Paramount Pictures has confirmed the fifth Terminator film, based on the original series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, is due to be released in June 2015.
No official statement has been made about who will star in the film, however Arnold Schwarzenegger told an audience in Australia earlier this month that he would be returning to his famous role.
The former governor of California said: “I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star as the Terminator, which we start shooting in January.”
Schwarzenegger starred in the first three Terminator films, released in 1984, 1991 and 2003, which grossed more than $1 billion (£655m) at the global box office.
The future of the franchise had seemed uncertain since the 2009 film Terminator: Salvation, which starred Christian Bale and Sam Worthington without Schwarzenegger.
The new film will be written by Shutter Island screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis and Drive Angry’s Patrick Lussier.
With a summer release date set for 26 June, the latest Terminator film will join a host of blockbusters due out at the same time, including Independence Day 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and Star Wars- Episode 7.
