Toy Story 4 pushed back...for a whole year?!

Buzz Lightyear fans will have to wait a year longer than expected for Toy Story 4 after Disney and Pixar shunted its release date back, not quite to infinity and beyond, but to 2018.

The fourth movie in the hugely popular franchise was originally scheduled for summer 2017, but will now reach US cinemas twelve months later on 15 June 2018. The current UK date is set for 13 July.

Director John Lasseter has hinted that Toy Story 4 will focus on a romance between Woody and Bo Peep. Pixar maintains a rule that a sequel is only made “if it comes up with a story that’s as good or better than the original”, so we’re expecting great things.

Toy Story began in 1995, with two sequels following in 1999 and 2010. The three films grossed around $2 billion at the global box office.

Elsewhere, adorable-sounding The Good Dinosaur is out later this year on 25 November and Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory arrives on 17 June 2016. Cars 3 follows on 16 June 2017 and The Incredibles 2 premieres on 21 June 2019.

Sequels aside, Day of the Dead-themed Pixar movie Coco hits cinemas on 22 November 2017 while Gigantic, based on Jack and the Beanstalk, is released on 9 March 2018.

Disney has yet more live-action fairy tales planned for the next four years. These are as-yet-untitled but are due on 22 December 2017, 2 November 2018, 8 November 2019 and 29 March 2019.

Finally, there are two untitled Pixar films coming on 13 March 2020 and 19 June 2020, with a Disney animation arriving on 25 November 2020.
