All was not lost for the Oscar nominees who went home without a statuette last night. They were far from empty handed clutching goodie bags worth $45,000 as consolation.

Los Angeles-based firm Distinctive Assets handed out the cheerfully titled “Everybody Wins at the Oscars Nominee Gift Bag” containing $12,000 holidays to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, trips to Mexico and Hawaii, a $5,000 plastic surgery coupon, customised tennis shoes, a week’s stay at a weight loss clinic and a year’s membership to Heathrow’s VIP service.

Among the less illustrious items were condoms, special weight loss kitchenware, Spanx-style control underwear, window cleaning product Windex, acupuncture sessions, posh hand cream and Sedu hair tongues - oh and an elaborate lint remover.

Oscars organisers stopped giving lavish gifts to guests in 2007 after it was scrutinised by American tax authorities.

Distinctive Assets, which have been giving out the goodie bags for 11 years, are not technically endorsed by the Academy.

The gift bundle is delivered right to the celebrities' doors the day after the Oscars.
