Trailer for Icelandic film about climate change Woman at War

The latest film from acclaimed Icelandic director Benedikt Erlingsson tells the story of a one-woman crusade.

Although Halla, on the outside, appears to be quiet and unassuming, she happens to be hiding a secret double life as a committed environmental activist. Known to others as “The Woman of the Mountain”, she is determined to bring down the local aluminium industry in order to protect the stunning highland landscape that is under threat.

However, just as she’s about to launch her biggest operation yet, she receives an unexpected letter that forces her to make a life-changing decision.

Does she give up her environmental crusade for the chance of fulfilling her dreams of becoming a mother?

Woman at War, which features Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir in the lead role, premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and was selected as the Icelandic entry for the Academy Awards. It was also shown at film festivals in London, Glasgow, and Dublin.

Woman at War is released in UK cinemas on 3 May.
