Anger at the Academy Awards has reignited in the run-up to the ceremony

The 87th Academy Awards ceremony has yet to begin, but the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite has already begun trending on Twitter.

Anger at the Academy’s failure to nominate a single non-white actor has reignited among users on social media, with some promising to “boycott” the ceremony.

The 2015 awards have been dubbed the “whitest Oscars” since 1998, which was the last time no black or Asian actors were nominated in the four acting categories.

Selma, the Martin Luther King biopic, received just two nominations at this year’s Oscars for Best Picture and Best Song.

British actor David Oyelowo missed out on a nomination in the Best Actor category for his performance as the civil rights leader, while director Ava DuVernay was also snubbed in the Directing category.

The lack of recognition for black and non-white actors at this year’s Oscars follows a promising year for diversity in 2014, which saw Lupita Nyong’o win Best Actress and Steve McQueen win Best Director for 12 Years A Slave.
