DVD & Blu-ray review: The Titfield Thunderbolt (U) Charles Crichton (82mins)

This slice of community spirit whimsy from Ealing centres on a proposed closure of the train line linking Titfield to Mallingford.

A group of plucky local villagers (including George Relph and John Gregson) won't stand for it, so they bid to run the line themselves. There's the usual blend of gentle farce and low-level criminality in this attractive comedy from 1952, which lacks the bite (and Alec Guinness) of The Lavender Hill Mob and The Ladykillers but does benefit from the endearing Stanley Holloway.
