Set in the same part of Argentina as her two previous offerings on release, Lucrecia Martel's 2008 thriller achieved some well-deserved plaudits for its sensitive performances, including that of lead Maria Onetto.
As the mystery of a chance road collision involving protagonist Veronica unfolds, it's worth remembering that much of the film resonates with experiences the country's former dictatorship. While the car is repaired and dentist Veronica's hair colour is changed to try to erase all memory of the event, we are drawn into a psychological study in the effects of trauma, as Veronica goes about her business with a vacant stare and the unflinching support of her family.
