DVD: Legend of the Millennium Dragon (PG)

Studio Pierrot, the esteemed Japanese animation house, delivers this well-worn tale of a shy boy who is actually a hero, a "saviour".

Clumsy 15-year-old Jun Tendo is attacked by a monster on the way home, so he seeks refuge in a monastery whereupon he encounters Gen'un, a mysterious bald dude who is convinced he's "the one". Jun is promptly transported back to medieval Japan to tackle some demonic beasties called the Oni. The plot is hackneyed, the characterisation flimsy and the animation far too busy. But my four-year-old son appeared to like it...
