This animated sequel (the original was made in 2009) has a nice line in surreal imagery: spider-like cheeseburgers come to life with chips as legs, carnivorous tacos prowl the jungles.

The look of the film is a garish feast of primary colours. The plotting, some hokum about young inventor Flint Lockwood – who made the machine that turned water into food – being taken in by evil Live Corp boss Chester V, doesn't make much sense.

Even so, the film-makers parade their eco credentials – a zero-emission car runs on "cute" (you put furry toys in the tank instead of petrol) – and there are enough food-based gags to satisfy most appetites.
