Xbox has announced that it will release survival-horror game State of Decay 3 on the Xbox Series X and PC.

A trailer for the game was shown during yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase event, streamed online, which also saw the announcements of a new Fable game, and gave viewers a look at the first gameplay footage from Halo Infinite.

The State of Decay 3 trailer in particular won enthusiastic praise from many of those watching the live-stream, with several people comparing its high-end graphics and creepy tone to the hit PlayStation horror franchise The Last of Us.

On Twitter, one person wrote: “I thought my entire time playing The Last of Us Part II that I hope State of Decay 3 would be an open world version of Last of Us. Fingers crossed.”

Another commented that the game “looks like a version of Last of Us with a black female lead”. Several others noted that the trailer gave them “Last of Us vibes”.

While the reveal trailer was praised for its impressive graphics, it’s worth noting that no actual gameplay was featured, with the trailer instead taking the form of a cinematic video.

State of Decay 3 is a sequel to the 2018 survival game State of Decay 2, developed by Undead Labs.

Many of the comments on social media compared the game to its predecessors, which enjoyed mixed receptions.

“State of Decay 3 is looking like a massive upgrade,” wrote one commenter. ”Hopefully we see some actual gameplay soon.”

“The trailer for #statofdecay3 looked cool!” said another. ”Short but creepy. The State of Decay team for two has fixed so many bugs and continues to add content for free. I really enjoy my time with it.”
