Coldplay to headline Glastonbury Festival

English rock band Coldplay is set to headline this year's Glastonbury Festival, according to The Sun on February 5. The band will play Saturday night, June 25.

The paper reports that the Rolling Stones turned down the offer, despite "a massive offer" to play Worthy Farm.

Rumors are circulating that U2 will likely headline on Friday, June 24, but no official announcements have been made. The band was slated to play 2010's Glastonbury, but had to pull out when frontman Bono hurt his back.

Coldplay has won seven Grammy Awards, and their last album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, sold nine million copies worldwide. The band is working on a yet-to-be-titled album, their fifth effort, set to be released this year.

The Glastonbury Festival, June 23-28 in Pilton, England, is one of the biggest and best-loved music festivals in the world, known for its all-star lineups as well as for its varied arts offerings. The 2010 event featured Muse, Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Snoop Dogg, and Gorillaz. Tickets for the 2011 festival are sold out, but check with the website for a possible resale of canceled tickets. A standard ticket is £185 (€218), which includes camping; additional prices include £15 (€18) for car parking, £75 (€88) to bring a camper van, and £820 (€967) for tipi rental.

Coldplay is also set to headline the Rock Werchter Festival in Werchter, Belgium, which runs June 30 to July 3 (Coldplay will play Saturday, July 2). The 2011 lineup also includes Iron Maiden, Kings of Leon, and Chemical Brothers.
