The first wave of acts set to play this year's Bestival has been announced with The Cure and Major Lazer secured as headliners.

Hot Chip, Animal Collective and Bastille all feature in 2016's lineup, as well as The Cure's New Wave Eighties contemporaries The Human League.

Wolf Alice - who released debut album My Love Is Cool in 2015 - will add yet another festival date to their busy schedule, alongside Years & Years, Craig David, Aurora, Beaty Heart, Katy B, Kitty Daisy & Lewis and Danish singer MØ will all play.

Bestival's annual theme has been announced as 'the future' - attendees are encouraged to participate in the festival's famous fancy dress parade, embracing the theme.

Speaking about The Cure's Saturday night headline slot, Festival organiser Rob Da Bank - who described them as "one of my favourite bands ever" - said: "[They] played Bestival five years ago and almost had to be dragged off stage after a three-hour mammoth greatest hits set.

"Robert Smith popped down last year and we shook hands on it all happening again - bring it on."

Electronic act Major Lazer - who will headline on Friday - are no strangers to Bestival having played on multiple stages before.

Bestival will take place on 8-11 September on the Isle of Wight. A Sunday headliner is yet to be announced.

Last year's 'Sumer of Love'-themed festival saw Duran Duran, The Chemical Brothers and Missy Elliott top the bill.
