For five days in June, a couple of fields in Somerset will see its population swell from just under 10,000 to nearly 200,000, making Glastonbury larger than Bath, Reading and Oxford.

The 2015 Glastonbury festival will see 135,000 ticket-holders descend on the Somerset farm, with around 90 per cent arriving by the end of Wednesday, eager to pitch up their tents as soon as possible.

The gates for Glastonbury officially opened at 8am on Wednesday, with the first day seeing warm sunshine and temperatures reaching 22 degrees.

A time-lapse video overlooking the site and the famous Pyramid stage shows the steady stream of people arriving in Somerset over the course of the fist day.

Performers this year include Florence + The Machine on Friday, Kanye West, The Who, Chemical Brothers, Rudimental, George Ezra, Motorhead, Lionel Richie, Alt J, and Paloma Faith.

Glastonbury also announced another guest appearance - the Dalai Lama. The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader will visit the event on Sunday.
