Governors Ball 2016: Sunday shows canceled due to severe weather

Artists are currently rescheduling their shows at venues across the city.

New York’s Governors Ball has been canceled on its third and final day due to inclement weather.

The festival’s organizers announced the decision on Sunday due to the likelihood of lightning on Randall’s Island. “The safety of fans, artists and crew always comes first,” Governors Ball said in a statement. “We are just as devastated as you.”

Earlier on Sunday, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office issued a weather advisory warning of possible hail, damaging wind gusts and flooding across the city

Kanye West, Bat for Lashes, Death Cab for Cutie, Gary Clark Jr, Two Door Cinema Club, Chvrches and surprise guest Prophets of Rage were among the list of artists canceled on Sunday, without question the festival’s strongest schedule.

Vince Staples and Joey Bada$$ were also canceled on Sunday, marking their second axed performances during the festival. Both rappers were scheduled to perform during the fest's After Dark series but were shut down following a fatal shooting at a recent TI concert at Irving Plaza.

Organizers promised full refunds to those who purchased tickets within 21 days or less.

“All customers who purchased a Sunday ticket and Sunday transportation ticket through the Governors Ball ticketing page will receive a refund,” the festival said in a statement.

However, some artists have already begun rescheduling their shows across the city.

Prophets of Rage will now perform at Warsaw in Brooklyn at 830pm, Courtney Barnet is throwing a free show at Rough Trade and Two Door Cinema Club is rescheduled at Music Hall of Williamsburg at 8pm.
