British rock group Radiohead holds its position as the music blogosphere's most hyped musical act according to The Hype Machine on February 25. Swedish pop star Lykke Li and American noise pop band Wavves round out the top three. Also in the day's top ten: Toro y Moi and Keep Shelly in Athens.
Chillwave act Toro y Moi, fronted by US recording artist Chazwick Bundick, has been a hot topic in the blogs since the release of its album Underneath the Pine on February 22. "Not all of the album is straight-up musical wallpaper," reviews blogger Fluxblog (www.fluxblog.org). "A lot of the reason why the record works is because it does periodically snap together into tighter, more pop-oriented forms."
American indie rock band Keep Shelly in Athens rises in the chart after recently releasing a 7-inch featuring the tracks "Hauntin' Me" and "Song to Cheer You Up." Of the latter, blogger Dailybeatz reviews: "It never gets quite as huge as 'Hauntin' Me' and there's clearly a much warmer and jazzier sound all around to this tune."
